What do I do with 20 pounds of tomatoes? Day One

Tomato Salad

Grandma Dee has done it again. AMAZING tomatoes. I brought home at least 20 pounds of tomatoes and now I get to figure out what to do with them. (After I give a few to my closest friends)

I couldn't wait to start. I just put this tomato salad together with what I had at hand and it is delightful.

Fresh tomatoes
Avocado
Red Onion
Lime Juice
Fresh Basil
Fresh Mint
Olive Oil
Vinegar
Salt
Pepper

Eat!

What will I do with the other 19 pounds?

Salsa, Served Hot

On Sunday, 5 and I visited Grandma Dee. In her garden, 2 volunteer chili pepper plants have popped up. Since she didn't plant them, we have no idea exactly what they are. I did a little research but I don't know for sure.

They're not very big but hotter than a Serrano. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Look at these gorgeous tomatoes from Grandma Dee's garden. There's really nothing like them. Even at the Farmer's Market.

Neighbor Wife came over with her food processor and we decided to make Roasted Salsa.
Tomatoes, Onion, Garlic, Mystery Chili Peppers drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper in a 450 degree oven for 20 minutes.

Lovely little hotties.

Fresh out of the oven, I popped all of the veggies into the Food Processor with some fresh lime juice. I only put in 3 little peppers and it was plenty spicy. Grandma Dee also gave me some clippings from her cilantro plant. Tammy explained that the little seeds are a spice called Coriander. I used all of it, including the flowers from the plant. From my little herb garden, I used parsley, oregano and chives.

This is absolutely the best salsa I've ever had. We ate it while it was still hot.
In fact Neighbor Wife just called and asked if we can make more. Now. She's craving it.

Yes!

Karen from Burbank - AKA Caution Girl.

Ernie Bucket

I'm up.
Coffee. (Check!)
40 flights of stairs. (Check!)
Walk home to find Hubby taking 4 and Ernie Bucket to the Donut Prince.
I decide to tag along for the walk. It's nice to have someone to walk with.

Confession: I don't like donuts. They make me queasy. Shaboom said this is very unamerican of me but I can't help it.

4 was very quiet while we were walking but then blurted out "Mommy if you were a superhero your name would be Caution Girl because you are full of caution."

Caution Girl? I'm thinking, yeah if you only knew me in the 80's..........but that's another story.
Okay, sure. I'm Caution Girl.

They order their sticky sweet donuts and I take off.

45 minutes later I get a call that I have to go to an appointment.....in 3 hours. I turn my sweaty ass around, go home, get ready, eat a half an artichoke and head out.

It's in Santa Monica so I park on top of the 10 story car park. If nothing else I get 10 more flights of stairs in today.

By the time I get home I'm starving.
These are some tomatoes from Grandma Dee's garden. So delicious.

After dinner 4 does a few paintings.
