The Mechanical Rainbow

Karen - Day 111 - Burbank

"The Mechanical Rainbow"
(Dot paints on photo paper because Supermom ran out of regular paper)

So apparently I'm not very good at math. After tomorrow's weigh in I only have 11 more weeks of this experiment not 14. My hands and feet start tingling. If I had to stop today what would I have gotten out of this?

1. I can eat bread.

2. I ate more than I thought I did.

3. I probably won't walk miles and miles in 6 inch heels like my friend in France.

4. Indoor cardio is more fun than outdoor cardio. (If you know what I mean.)

5. I never, ever, ever want to spend 4 hours a day away from my family walking and doing stairs.

6. I can eat bread. (Deserves repeating)

7. Big walks and day trips with Hubby and 4 are some of the happiest times of my day.

8. I can eat cheese.

9. Blogging is fun.

10. Slow down and pay attention to my life.

Today I made crepes for everyone.

Today I played trains.

Today I made Croque Monsieur for lunch.

Today I laughed with a friend.

Today I missed my dad.

Today I tickled my kid just to hear him giggle.

Today I made roasted chicken with mashed potatoes for dinner.

Today I flirted with Hubby.

Today I listened to my 4 year old say his prayers.

Today I paid attention.

The Shoes

Karen - Day 110 - Burbank

When I woke up this morning I had no idea I would enter a world I've never really understood before. Shoe envy.

The day started off nice enough with a breakfast picnic.

Then 4 and I walked to the store and brought some sushi home.
There's a lovely sushi stand at the store I shop.

For dinner, Hubby grilled some fresh veggies. We're enjoying some French bread and cheese with that when the phone rings.

Shaboom's on her way over. She has to show me her new shoes.
I chuckle a little because although I enjoy a nice shoe or boot I've never really had "Shoe Fever".
And then she shows up.
With these.

Now I know in my Mommy life there is no need for these. I have 2 pair of running shoes that serve me well. But aren't they beautiful? I really really love them. I quickly do the math.....one pair of these are a few mortgage payments. If I cut out all luxuries like eating and get a second job I could buy these in ......

"Mommy, are you okay? You look funny."
"I'm trying to figure out how to get these pretty shoes."

Then I imagine walking to the store in these. Possibly stepping in a mud puddle or 4 spilling milk or juice on them. I get sad for my new pretend shoes. I put the calculator back in the junk drawer. Take a deep breath. Watch Shaboom put the shoes back in their own little bag and say goodbye.

This was a tough day.

Everything a Man Needs

Karen - Day 109 - Burbank, CA

"Mom! Mom! The guys are here to give us a new driveway!"

"That's great honey."

"Mom! Look at that truck! A fork lift, jackhammer, giant truck, it's everything a man needs."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Off to do some errands.
Then lunch.
4 and I go to a little tiny restaurant called Cafe Verona.
I love this place. We call it our secret garden.

I have the Filetto Al Carpaccio.

I can only eat about half of it.

Back home, Hubby's making more BBQ for dinner.
It's a meat lovers paradise today.
And to think I was a vegan not too many years ago.
But that is a story for another day.

------------------------------------------------
I'm so excited to tell you that I won something! I love Little Blue Deer, and while I was visiting, there was a drawing for some beautiful earrings from Folksy Chic. I don't know how I won, but I love them!
