Vacation - Day Three

Good morning Prickly Pear Cactus.

We woke up to a beautiful desert morning, had coffee in our usual spot and headed out to The Living Desert.

They have plants, animals, a petting zoo,......

and an incredible model train display. Starting Oct. 1 they will have 12 trains running at the same time. My kid was fascinated. He watched the trains for a half an hour. Then it was time to feed the baby giraffe.

He took it right out of our hands. Amazing eyelashes.

5 made lots of new friends.

Back at La Quinta we swam for hours. We went to Twenty 6 again for dinner. The waitress walked up and asked if we were ready to order. My kid breaks out with "Can I talk to the chef please?" (Too much Food Network?) Anyway, she laughed and a few minutes later the Chef came out and said hello. He makes 5 a special plate and recommended this for us.

(I got this picture off the La Quinta website.)

They're Chicken Pops. They come with a super spicy sauce and a cheese sauce to cool it down. Hubby and I shared. I'm glad we had these on the last night because we would have had them for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

Thanks Chef!

He knows what he's doing, that kid.

  2. My dad and stepmom live in Indian Wells. We all went to The Living Desert last time we visited, years ago (they usually come north to visit us). What a fun place for kids and for grown ups.

Your story about your son asking for the chef reminds me of the time my six year old stepdaughter ordered a Cabernet Sauvignon at a restaurant. I didn't know whether to laugh or be embarrassed. I suppose I was bringing my work home with me, as I worked for a winery back then.
    Kids say the darndest things!
