Karen - Day 87 - The Bronze Star

Karen sends her updates from Burbank, CA

Today my brother, the Sgt. Major, is awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq.
He didn't want us to make a big deal out of it. Which is too bad because it's a big deal and we're going to make a big deal out of it.
He said to me, " I don't do what I do for a medal."
I replied, "I know. That's why it's an even bigger deal."

The Sgt. Major and me. I am so proud and honored to be here.

Yes, there's a Vietnam medal in there among others.

Tammy, The Sgt. Major and me.

More proud family.

The ceremony.

The Sgt. Major's wife, Rosalie, had a wonderful celebration party afterwards. Rosalie and The Sgt. Major were High School Sweethearts and have been together forever. Rosalie has been his strength through 2 wars. It is not an easy life to be the wife of a warrior. When The Sgt. Major went to Iraq she kept his boots by the bed waiting for him to return. Which, thank God, he did. Rosalie endured sleepless nights knowing The Sgt. Major was willingly putting himself in harms way. She quietly endured the terror and heartache with grace.

Rosalie and Seth. Seth is Rosalie and the Sgt. Major's son.

Everything was beautiful.

She loves a theme.

So pretty.

This flag flies proudly all year round.

The celebration dinner.

More love.

It was a grand and noble day.

To my brother, and all the men and women in the Armed Forces I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all amazing.
To my sister in law, Rosalie, I want to thank you for always being there for my brother. Your constant support and strength has always been an inspiration to me.
