Granola, strawberry yogurt and dark chocolate for breakfast.
Boring computer problems had me on the phone with a guy in India for an hour and a half.
Time for a walk.
3 and I were almost out the door....The phone rings. I had to be across town in 2 hours. Which means my 3 year old goes with me because Hubby is deep in the 9th hole of a golf game. Fantastic.
We get to my appointment on time. I bribe my little angel with the promise of ice cream if he's good.
He's a perfect child.
Well, he's really good for 3.
Okay, I'm totally exhausted by the time my appointment is over.
I gather our bag of toys, lunch/snack bag, stroller, purse.....everything.
We are almost out the door when a very Nice Lady smiles and says....
Nice Lady: "You're really rockin that frazzled mom look!"
(This stops me in my tracks.)
Me: "Thanks?!"
Nice Lady: "Oh, you know what I mean. Polished is so overrated."
We head straight to the first ice cream store I could find.
In this case, it was Cold Stone Creamery.
There's no sharing today.I want my own.
3 and I order.
His involved oreo cookies.
Mine was a chocolate ice cream with hot fudge dream.
We both go into an ice cream - trance like state.
Awakening every once in awhile to smile at each other.
When we were done, 3 leaned over and whispered "Momma, this is the best day ever."
Hubby gets home from his golf game and I'm off to do 40 flights of stairs. This half hour is now my break during the day. I can listen to whatever music I want, breathe and accomplish a goal.
Dinner was a ham, roasted red pepper and goat cheese crepe.
P.S. I am a frazzled mom.
You may be a frazzled mom, but I think that woman was RUDE! Ugh! Could be that I always FEEL like one myself, so that's why I'm upset!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you do your stairs? Just at home?
Love that photo - so lucky to have gorgeous mountains like that nearby!
I like the photo of the granola. MMMMMMM-MMMMM.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christy! I have been on a mission to do stairs since I started this thing. So far the most convenient place is a 5 story parking garage 2 blocks away. I walk ove,r go up and down 8 times and walk home. It's not very glamorous but the whole thing takes less than 30 minutes and it's free. Then throughout the day if we see stairs we take them.
ReplyDeleteShaboom, I love the granola with chocolate! Can you check on your granola box and see what it's sweetened with? Mine says corn syrup. I don't know if that's okay.
xoxo
Corn syrup or high-fructose corn syrup? The later is no good. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteHere's a good granola recipe:
http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2009/01/easy_homemade_g.html
Here's another recipe I found that looks good:
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
* 3 cup rolled oats
* 1/4 cup slivered almonds
* 2 tsp cinnamon
* 1/3 cup apple juice
* 2 Tbsp honey
* 1 Tbsp canola oil
* 1 tsp vanilla
* 1/8 tsp salt
* 1/3 cup dried apple pieces
* 1/3 cup dried cranberries
Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 300°
2. Combine the oats, almonds, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Set aside.
3. Next, combine the apple juice, honey, and canola oil in a small saucepan, and cook over medium heat until the honey is dissolved. Add the vanilla and salt to the mixture.
4. Drizzle the apple juice mixture over the oats, and mix just until moistened.
5. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray. Spread the oat mixture evenly on the large baking sheet.
6. Bake at 300° for 10 minutes. Stir well, and then bake an additional 5-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
7. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, and stir in the dried apples and cranberries. Cool completely, and then store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Just corn syrup. So I guess it's good:)
ReplyDeleteThere's a really good health food store in Burbank. I'll definitely give it these a try.
I'll make you granola.
ReplyDeleteYou make the BEST granola, Jennalynn!!! Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteThe frazzled mom look is the new beautiful so rock it! (At least that's my mantra...along with 40 is the new 20.)
ReplyDeleteI make granola with maple syrup. I just saw a yummy recipe in the new Real Simple magazine.
I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteAll these new recipes. It's granola gone wild!
Screw her. She must not have been a mom. And for the record....you never look frazzled to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm always hungry after reading your post. Ham/cheese/crep? Scrumptious.
I agree with Eva, what a passive agressive comment... and yes, i'm always hungry after seeing your awesome pics!
ReplyDeleteUgh. That sounds like something stupid I would say. When I mean to compliment and then realize as soon as it leaves my mouth that I was a complete idiot.
ReplyDeleteI apologize for all us foot-in-mouthers everywhere. We usually mean the exact opposite of what we said. So that means you looked adorable and she admired and envied you.
Not sure how I would refrain myself if someone told me that... You did well mama.
ReplyDeleteBunny - will you be my friend? I am total foot in mouth, often without even knowing it. Can I just wear a sign that says "FYI if I just sounded like a bitch, I didn't mean it!" and have everyone understand?
ReplyDeleteIf that gal would like to see more of the "frazzled mom look" in action, you may give her my address.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love it when they say it is the best day ever.
